Superstition Springs Elementary has a new library!
We are collecting books for the library. Our goal is 300!
Superstition Springs Elementary is a public elementary school located in Mesa, AZ in the Gilbert Unified School District. They are looking for new or gently used books for K-6th Grade to stock the library. Hardback books are preferred but not required.
We are also accepting monetary donations for this event!
A Message from the Superstition Springs Elementary Librarian
As a brand new elementary school librarian at a large school, one of my top priorities is getting our students excited about reading. I inherited a lovely library space, but we do not currently have enough books to keep our large student population interested. There just aren't enough books to go around. My number one goal this year is to build up our library collection so more students can access more books. Sometimes, all a child needs are to find the book that hooks them before they begin identifying themselves as readers.
Access to high-quality, high-interest reading materials is essential in helping kids grow into readers - which in turn helps them in every other aspect of life.
My goal with this project is to start filling in a gap in our library collection - graphic novels. More than just "comic books,” graphic novels aid reluctant readers by combining fun and engaging artwork with high-quality text. Graphic novels bridge the gap between picture books and traditional novels for many of our readers. They introduce advanced vocabulary, help students learn to make inferences, and aid in reading comprehension.
